Hi there! I am new to all of this blogging, website, domain stuff. But, I understand it is necessary to get information out about myself and my business.
My name is Nancy, and I live with my dog (Keesshound/Border Collie mix) Buddy in a little town in Northwest Washington. I worked for over thirty years in the early childhhod education field, 20 of which were for the Head Start program. I had been an administrator for 14 of those years, when a child pushed my leg out from under me, which caused me to fall. I landed on my right hip, which they thought I had broken. However, further investigation showed that I had two bulging disks right where I had degenerative disk disease and arthritus; it was the perfect storm in my back!! These three conditions caused spinal spenosis, a narrowing of the openings that my sciatic nerves go through, on both sides! So, living in constant pain meant that I was unable to work.
Social Securty retired me, and I started trying to live on disability income. But it is very little income to live on. Additionally, after working for 30+ years, I was BORED laying around, watching TV!
So, I recalled learning how to make jewelry, and bought some materials, and played around with them. Then one day, I went to a Swap Meet, were a woman had a large box with an assortment of beads available to purchase for $10. I bought them, and was immediately on my away!!
It's been three years now, and I LOVE making all types of jewelry! Everything from earrings, to toe rings; from bracelets to anklets; and even necklaces too!! But my favorite jewelry making process is wire wrapping, in any capacity! I love how it feels to bend the wire and how the finished product looks . I taught myself everything I know through reading tutorials, watching YouTube videos, and trial and error. Believe me, I have gone through a ton of wire, trying to get something just right!
So, that's a bit about me. Tell me about you. Are you just learning or a pro at making jewelry? How have you learned what you know? What t is your favorite technique? Where do you live? Etc...
In my next Blog, I'll tell you the story behind the name of my company (Smitten Kitten)! Happy Blogging!
